Joy Lockard

Joy received her bachelor’s degree in Speech Communication Studies from Whitworth University in Spokane, WA.  In 2006, she graduated with a master’s degree in Marital and Family Therapy from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA.

Joy’s clinical training has included work with children, families, individual adults, and couples in community mental health, school-based mental health, and more recently, in private practice settings.  She has also worked as a parenting educator for expecting and new parents and group leader for mothers of children with special needs.  Joy has experience working with clients on a wide range of issues, including struggles with anxiety; family of origin and boundary issues; grief and loss; parent-child attachment; and major life transitions such as launching in early adulthood, marriage, pregnancy, and parenting.  Joy is a certified Prepare-Enrich facilitator and Level One Certified Restoration Therapist who enjoys working with couples preparing for marriage.  She also has a special interest in working with women in all stages of motherhood, including those struggling with infertility and postpartum adjustment reactions such as postpartum depression and anxiety.  She has received specialized training in treating and diagnosing perinatal mood disorders through Postpartum Support International.

Joy believes that healing and growth takes place within the context of relationships.  She aims to provide a safe space in which clients can process their struggles and identify personal, spiritual, and relational resources and strengths that will help them to become more of who they were created to be.  She counts it a great privilege and gift to be invited along on this incredible journey.

Joy and her family are actively involved in their church, where she volunteers with the Children and Family Ministries department.  In her free time, Joy enjoys taking walks, doing yoga, curling up with a good book, trying out new restaurants with her husband, or having a dance party at home with her three young children.
